Who else had a wonderfully fattening holiday season? Yeah. I gained four, yes four, pounds this holiday. And you know what? Good. I loved every bite of that pecan pie.
So lets begin by patting ourselves on the back that we are still alive in 2012 and have a chance to make the changes we need to make to be the best people possible. Sure, you may believe that surviving until today sets an unrealistic expectation for tomorrow, but let’s just focus on the now.
Now, it is the 3rd of January. I am purposefully avoiding every gym. I’m a big fan of setting goals, but there are two holidays I hate: New Years and Valentines day. But that’s a rant for a different time. The university where I attend has a gym open, but I’m waiting for the pool to open back up next week and that’s when the real training begins. I am focusing on stretching, gaining muscle, and building the habits of working out and eating healthy to be ready to train. Since I took off time over the holidays, I am about 2 weeks behind in my goals. I started the day with doing Pilates for abs and then doing Nike Fitness workout for 30 minutes. I’m feeling pretty alpha after this.
I’ve also planned out my meals for the week. If you’re on a busy schedule and don’t know how to eat healthy or have time, taking one day of your weekend and preparing meals for the week is the best way to go. I am currently marinating chicken in Fat Free Italian dressing for tomorrow, made meatloaf, lasagna, and bought the ingredients for chicken and dumplings. Now that I know my dinner calories for the next week, I can know how many calories I have fore breakfast and lunch. I’ll send recipes on the days I eat them.
2012, you are my year.
Unless I’m losing, than we’re just running on treadmill next to each other. Duh.

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall His break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise us,
Let all within us praise His holy name.This verse is my favorite…
I couldn’t agree more.

I feel the exact same way. Everyone is striving for the “ideal” body, but it kills me when I search for inspiration, I come across so many pictures of stick-thin photos of women in provocative poses and a “motivational” message about not giving up. Trust me, that is not the ideal body. Your body is ideal, just make it healthy so it can work for you as long as possible.

This picture makes me cry. By no means is it the worst of its kind, but it represents a big problem we have here on Tumblr.
I love Tumblr. I find inspiration here every, single day. I love hearing from you guys, and seeing your familiar names pop up in my dashboard. But in between the recipes, workouts and tips, there’s an alarming (ALARMING, SADDENING, DANGEROUS) amount of Thinspo (pro-thin) and ProAna (pro-anorexia/eating disorders) blogs out there claiming to be pro-health. Some are quite obvious, and others not so much.
I’m not calling anyone out, nor do I think that all blogs with the following signs are terrible. I’m not mad at the girls who run these blogs: this is how they are reaching out and when you’re falling you hold on to whatever you can, including building a community of people who feel the same way. There’s a lot more going on than just the posts, so my purpose is not to bash them but to point out some of the characteristics of a blog that YOU might not want to follow. Communities can be great, but only if they’re helping. Many of these blogs reinforce the hurt we feel, which leaves us weaker not stronger. It’s up to the bloggers to change their tone if they choose. But it’s up to you to make sure the messages on your dashboard aren’t hurting you longterm.
Before you follow, look for some of the signs of an unhealthy blog:
Motivation in working out is a bit lacking due to the holidays, and you know what? Good. This is the 2 weeks out of the year where you reflect on your life, traditions, family, and remember what is important in life. Yes, diet and exercise are important, but so is remembering to be grateful to the life you have, merciful to those who’ve hurt you, kind to those who need it, and compassionate to all.
So now is the time of year to do the hardest workout of your life: forgiveness. Learn to let things go and move on with your life. I don’t know what is troubling you, or why you’re hurting, but I do understand hurt.
Let’s simplify the issue: you have a terrible workout and twist your ankle because of the treadmill. At this point, would you never get back on a treadmill? Forced to hate it for eternity, never to receive closure or an “I’m sorry for hurting you,” from the treadmill. That seems a bit ridiculous, I know, but the concept is the same. You cannot control those around you or how they react to you, all you can control is your reaction. Choose to forgive and love* this holiday season, choose to forgive the treadmill despite it’s evil intentions.
So come with me and prepare for a wild 2012. Let go of everything wrong, every hurt, ever bad relationship, ever neglectful parent, and every nay-sayer. This is your year, our year, to accomplish what you haven’t done before, this is the year you will become the best version of you. Together, transforming the mind, body, and soul. Are you ready for the awakening?
*Love does not mean you go out of your way to be nice to a person. If someone has truly wronged you, it just means when that hurt haunts you, and feel pain, you wish that person well, and pray a blessing on their life. That is it, not going to any lengths to show love, just in your heart, doing what’s right and letting go.
